Pedestrian Fatalities in Kansas City
Although pedestrians are legally required to obey traffic control devices, like red lights, stop lights, and crossing signals, and take sensible precautions to stay safe, they are simply no match for motor vehicles. This is why it is incumbent on drivers to give pedestrians the right-of-way whenever possible.
While many people are familiar with the saying “pedestrians always have the right of way,” this is not 100% true. For instance, a pedestrian would be liable if they ran out in front of traffic. The saying does underscore the importance of drivers exercising extreme care when people on foot are near.
Unfortunately, drivers don’t always show this level of care to pedestrians. Far too often, they are careless, reckless, or distracted with disastrous consequences. When a driver acts wrongfully or is negligent and causes a pedestrian accident with injuries, fatalities, or other damages, the negligent driver can be held legally accountable.
