Mendon, MO (June 28, 2022) – Authorities were dispatched to the scene of a major Amtrak crash that occurred on Monday in a remote area of Missouri. At around 1:42 p.m., on June 27, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a train accident in the Mendon area, just 100 miles outside of Kansas City.
Reports provided by authorities show that a crash between a train and a dump truck occurred at an unguarded crossing area in the town of Mendon. The train was carrying approximately 243 passengers and 12 crew members at the time of the incident while traveling eastbound from Los Angeles, California to Chicago, Illinois. The impact of the crash caused eight train cars into locomotives to derail and tip over.
A total of three people have lost their lives as a result of this accident. The victims were only identified as the driver of the dump truck and two people on board the train at the time of the collision.
Dozens more were injured as a result of the accident. More than 20 local and state law enforcement agencies, fire departments, ambulance services, and medical helicopter services responded to the scene of the accident to assist.
At this time, investigations surrounding the accident are underway.
