Spokane, MO (May 16, 2022) – An automobile accident reported in Christian County on Friday afternoon left one woman injured. At around 12:45 p.m., on May 13, Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched with firefighters to the scene of an auto accident on US Highway 160.
Reports provided by MSHP Cpl W.S. Lashmet show that a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling on US Highway 160. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. As a result, the two vehicles collided just 2 miles south of Spokane.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed away from the scene. MS HP and firefighters secure the area as they work to clear the roadway.
The passenger of the Jeep, identified as 61-year-old Tresa Cummings, sustained injuries in the accident. She was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield Missouri for emergency medical care.
At this time, investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
Our thoughts are with Tresa Cummings at this time. We hope for her full and timely recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Every year, tens of thousands of people are hurt in motor vehicle accidents across our state. Although we like to believe that everyone is safe while traveling along our roadways, this is far from true. We see a significant number of people suffer severe injuries in accidents due to the negligence of others no matter how careful we are while driving, we simply are unable to predict and control how other people sharing the road are going to act. Some of the most common contributing factors to collisions include:
- Drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way
- Motorists who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Drivers who are distracted by their cell phones and by other objects
- Drivers who are speeding
- Drivers who turn at intersections without checking
- Blindspot accidents
