St Charles, MO (May 27, 2022) – Two men were transported to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries following a five-vehicle collision that took place in St. Charles County. At around one a.m., on May 24, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of an auto accident on Interstate 70.
Reports provided by authorities indicate that a 2010 Hino Conventional was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 at a slow rate of speed due to a vehicle malfunction. A 2014 GMC Sierra was traveling the same way on the roadway when the driver failed to slow down in time to avoid a collision. As a result, the GMC crashed into the rear of the Hino. The impact of the crash caused the GMC to strike a 2012 Ford Focus.
The forward and the GMC then traveled off the roadway and collided with a concrete median barrier. The GMC then reentered the roadway and struck a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. An unknown semi-truck tractor-trailer then crashed into the GMC and fled the scene.
Two people involved in the accident were injured. EMS rendered aid to 30-year-old Eric Huffman at the scene of the accident. He was then transported to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis by St. Charles County Ambulance District. The second victim, 30-year-old Eric Buchner, was transported by St. Charles County ambulance District to SSM Health Depaul Hospital for further care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Eric Huffman and Eric Buchner at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
