St Charles, MO (May 16, 2022) – An auto collision that occurred in the St. Charles area on Friday morning left one woman moderately injured. Just before 11:30 a.m., on May 13, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of an auto accident on Route K.
Reports from MSHP show that a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu passed through the intersection of Route K and Royal Springs Drive. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the steady red signal. As a result, the Chevrolet collided with a 2004 BMW 5 series.
The driver of the BMW, 18-year-old Omaria Okumu, sustained injuries in the accident. Okumu was transported by St. Charles County EMS to SSM Health St. Joseph Lake St Louis for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Omaria Okumu at this time. We hope for her full recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Every day, more than 178 people are injured in motor vehicle accidents across the state of Missouri. Although the majority of drivers in our state are careful and considerate of others, we continue to see a significant number of people hurt in accidents due to drivers who engage in reckless, negligent, and malicious actions while operating their vehicles. Some of the most common causes of crashes in our state include:
- Failing to yield the right of way
- Failing to stop at stop signs and red lights/disregarding traffic control devices
- Driving while intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of drugs
- Driving while distracted
When people are negligent while operating their vehicles, they place the lives of others sharing the road at risk. Unfortunately, over 80% of crashes that take place in our state are a result of driver errors.
When innocent people are injured in accidents, they may have legal options available to help them recover. Seeking the assistance of a car accident lawyer in St. Charles as soon as possible can make a big difference when it comes to your chances of getting justice.
