Car Accidents in Missouri
Each year, car accidents have a debilitating impact on the lives of those involved. Unfortunately, we see thousands of innocent people suffer injuries in crashes that are preventable. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the leading causes of car crashes in Missouri are:
- Distracted driving
- Drunk driving
- Reckless driving
When innocent parties are harmed in automobile collisions, they are able to take legal action against the responsible party. Legal claims can help innocent victims recover compensation for the damages they face. However, in Missouri, the law of pure comparative negligence is applicable when it comes to filing a car crash case. This means that if you are injured in a car crash, your damages will be reduced by your percentage of fault for the crash. For example, if you are found to be 20% at fault for a car crash that caused you $10,000 in damages, your damages will be reduced by $2,000.
In order to recover the maximum amount of compensation possible, it is crucial that you are able to prove that the defendant was at fault for the accident. This can be a difficult process for injured victims. For this reason, it is important to reach out to a Springfield car accident lawyer to ensure your legal rights are protected. Your lawyer will be able to help you navigate the complex legal system and fight to get you the maximum amount of compensation for your claim.
