St James, MO (November 9, 2022) – A traffic wreck reported in Phelps County prompted the response of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Monday. At around 3:45 p.m. on November 6, the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the crash on Interstate 44.
According to reports from MSHP, a 2015 Volvo VNL and a 2008 Saturn Outlook collided on the eastbound side of Interstate 44 near mile marker 197.2. A construction area was reported on the road, which caused the vehicles to slow down, which resulted in a rear-end collision.
The Saturn was severely damaged as a result of the wreck. The driver of the Saturn, 50-year-old James Hendricks of Bourbon, Missouri, was severely injured. He ended up passing away at the scene and was pronounced deceased by Phelps County Coroner Ernie Coverdale.
The incident remains under investigation by MSHP at this time.
Our warmest sympathies are with the family of James Hendricks at this time.
