Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri

Cape Girardeau, MO - Jessica Natvig & Jacob Ferrell Injured in Crash on Highway 74 near County Rd 205Pedestrian accidents are one of the leading causes of injuries in the United States. Over 130,000 people are hurt in pedestrian accidents every single year. Here in Missouri, we see countless people harmed as a result of these accidents. Leading causes of pedestrian crashes in our state include:

  • Distracted driving: Distracted driving is any activity that diverts a driver’s attention from the road. This can include things like talking on the phone, texting, eating, drinking, or even changing the radio station. Distracted driving is dangerous because it takes a driver’s hands off the wheel and eyes off the road, making it more difficult to react to sudden changes or hazards.
  • Speeding: Speeding is one of the most common causes of car accidents. Speeding makes it harder for drivers to control their vehicles and increases the chance of losing control and crashing.
  • Drunk driving: Drunk driving is another leading cause of car accidents in Missouri. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. Drunk drivers may have difficulty staying in their lanes, have slowed reflexes, and make poor decisions.
  • Weather: Inclement weather can make driving conditions more difficult and increase the risk of crashing. Missouri is particularly prone to severe thunderstorms, which can cause flash flooding and tornadoes.
  • Road conditions: Poorly maintained roads can also contribute to car accidents. Potholes, debris, and other hazards can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles or even crash.
  • Fatigue: Drivers who are tired are more likely to make mistakes that could lead to an accident. Fatigue can cause drivers to have trouble paying attention, react slowly to changes in traffic, and make poor decisions
  • Reckless driving: This can include a variety of dangerous behaviors, such as tailgating, making unsafe lane changes, and more.

If another drivers negligence has caused you harm, you may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against them.
