Peterson & Associates Medical Alerts

Digitek Alert - May 1, 2008
In an April 28, 2008 MedWatch Safety Alert about Digitek (digoxin tablets), the FDA informed doctors and patients that this prescription medication is the subject of a nationwide Class I recall because of the possibility that some tablets were manufactured such that they contain twice the approved level of active ingredient. Click here for more information.

Fentanyl Alert - February 15, 2008
On February 12th, 2008, all Fentanyl 25-microgram-per-hour patches that expire on or before December 2009 sold in the U.S. were recalled by Johnson & Johnson. The recall was issued due to the potential for a leak which may arise on the base of the patch releasing a potentially fatal gel. Those who come in contact with the leaking patch may have difficulty breathing or could become victims of a fatal overdose. If you or a loved one has been in contact with a defective recalled Fentanyl Pain Patch you may be entitled to compensation. For a free case evaluation, click here.

Heparin Alert - February 11, 2008
The FDA has recently issued a nationwide recall of heparin IV flush syringes distributed by Sierra Pre-filled because they were found to be contaminated with a possibly life threatening bacterium called Serratia marcescens. Serratia marcescens has been known to cause conjunctivitis, keratitis, endophthalmitis, tear duct infections, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory tract infections, problems in the gastrointestinal system of children, as well as many other serious complications. These complications caused by the bacterium can be dangerous for most healthy adults, for the patients who rely on the syringes they are likely to be deadly. Click here for more informaiton.

Vytorin - January 22, 2008
Research within the past week has raised questions about Vytorin, a popular cholesterol-lowering drug. Even though Vytorin has been on the market for nearly four years, it was reported only last week that it does not prevent heart attacks and strokes. Older drugs in the statin class are far more effective, doctors say. Click here for more informaiton.

Ortho Evra Update! - January 18, 2008
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today approved additional changes to the Ortho Evra Contraceptive Transdermal (Skin) Patch label to include the results of a new epidemiology study that found that users of the birth control patch were at higher risk of developing serious blood clots, also known as venous thromboembolism (VTE), than women using birth control pills. VTE can lead to pulmonary embolism. Click here for more informaiton.
