The ALLHAT study suggests that the medication may increase the risk of heart failure in some individuals with hypertension. However, the reasons for this are still being debated in the medical community. It is important that drug treatments be developed for each patient individually, and that blanket statements (like the ALLHAT advisory) not be applied to every patient. - Joseph Miller, MD, a preventive cardiologist at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
Side Effects
A National Institutes of Health study found that Cardura users had experienced congestive heart failure more frequently than those who used a cheaper diuretic.
