Darvocet Lawsuit Information

Darvocet, which combines propoxyphene with common pain killer acetaminophen, can be dangerous due to new data that suggests that the drug can lead to possible heart rhythms causing death. According to the FDA, 10 million people took a form of the drug in 2009 and "Over a five-year period, the number of drug-related deaths was approximately 16 deaths per 100,000 prescriptions..."

Darvocet FDA Recall

The FDA ordered that Darvocet, used as a pain killer, be taken off the market based on evidence that fatal heart rhythms may occur. Studies show that, even when taken at recommended doses, propoxyphen causes significant changes to the electrical activity of the heart. These changes, which can be seen on a a ECG, can increase the risk for serious abnormal heart rhythms that have been linked to death.

Having been on the market since 1950, propoxyphene has been "grandfathered in" but would not likely meet today's standards for the FDA. The drug's makers have failed to warn patients and doctors of its substantial risks.
