Dostinex® Lawsuit | Dostinex Lawyer | Dostinex FDA Warning | Dostinex Side Effects
Dostinex is used to treat certain hormone problems and to reduce or prevent breast milk prevention. It has also been used in some studies involving Parkinson’s disease.
Dostinex and its generic equivalent Cabergoline have been used to treat hormone problems such as excess prolactin. The drug has also found a use in reducing or preventing breast milk production, except after childbirth. It was also used in a study of patients with Parkinson’s disease. It was that use of the drug that prompted a mention in an FDA report.

The drug pergolide was withdrawn from the U.S. market in 2006 after two studies showed that patients with Parkinson’s disease who were treated with that drug had an increased chance of serious damage to their heart valves when compared to patients who did not receive the drug. Pergolide is a member of a class of drugs known as dopamine agonists. It’s used to manage the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as tremors and slowness of movement.
One of the drugs included in the two pergolide studies was Dostinex, also a dopamine agonist. The FDA said the drug was approved in the U.S. for the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders but not for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. For hyperprolactinemic disorders, a considerably lower dose of Dostinex is used. The FDA said there appeared to be “little chance of heart problems” from that lower dosage. Thus, Dostinex has remained on the market for treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders..
