Reglan FDA Warning

In February 2009, the FDA issued a black box warning on all metoclopramide products, such as Reglan. This was done to warn the public about the dangers involved with taking the drug over extended periods and in high doses. Studies have shown that using Reglan for periods longer than 12 weeks dramatically increases a patient’s vulnerability to tardive dyskinesia, a neurological condition. Symptoms include involuntary lip smacking, facial grimacing, and tongue thrusting. Many patients also experience difficulty moving their limbs and fingers.
