Silica
Silicosis is a serious disease which is caused by the inhalation of dust
containing crystalline silica. Silicosis is a progressive incurable respiratory
disease which affects the lungs. If you or a loved one has suffered as the
result of silica exposure, please contact Peterson & Associates to discuss your
legal options.
When silica dust is inhaled, the lung tissue becomes inflamed, which causes
it to scar. This scarring is referred to as nodules, and the nodules disrupt the
amount of oxygen which enters the lungs and bloodstream. Some of the types of
Silicosis include:
- Chronic Silicosis
- Accelerated Silicosis
- Acute Silicosis
In addition to those diseases, silica exposure may also be linked to lung
cancer and tuberculosis. Many of the adverse effects of silica exposure may take
years to develop, in some cases up to twenty years. The symptoms and illnesses
may differ depending upon the amount and length of time that the victim was
exposed to the substance.
Silicosis was first acknowledged in the 1930s but it has been known for even
longer by various other names. Workers in many different fields are at risk for
silica exposure and Silicosis, especially employees who work around or with
crystalline silica or quartz. People who work in the below listed fields may be
at risk for silica exposure:
- Construction
- Factory work and manufacturing
- Sandblasting
- Stonecutting
- Railroad work
- Ceramics
- Mining
If you or a loved one has been exposed to silica, and are suffering from
Silicosis or any other silica-related side effect, contact Peterson &

expenses.
