Stryker HipIn 2012, Stryker Corp. found that their products were causing severe health complications in patients. Two products in particular, the Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems, were causing enough problems that Stryker chose to recall those two products from the market proactively, rather than wait for a recall. Since their recall, patients who have suffered major health issues from Stryker hip implants have chosen to hold the corporation accountable for its poor design.

What Is Causing My Hip Implant to Fail?

If you received the Rejuvenate Modular, the ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stem, or the Accolade TMZF, you might be experiencing symptoms associated with tissue death, bone death, severe inflammation, and more. These issues are likely caused by corrosion and “fretting,” which is when metallic shards enter the flesh and bloodstream.

The serious complications arising from fretting include:

  • Metal poisoning
  • Necrosis (tissue death)
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Heart and neurological problems
  • Liver and kidney damage

All of these complications can lead to painful, costly, and life-threatening revision surgeries to correct the problem. The issue has been found in Stryker’s manufacturing. The neck of the hip implant (the thin piece that connects the femur to the hip) is made of chromium and cobalt, but the stem to which it is attached is coated with titanium. When these two metals wear against each other, they cause metal debris to shave off and enter the pelvic tissue.
