Stryker Extends Settlement Deadline
The deadline for filing a claim with the Stryker settlement fund has been extended to April 17, 2015. Injured patients have until 5 p.m. on the 17thto file their claims with appropriate documentation.
Stryker hip implant devices were used by more than 20,000 patients all over the world. Unfortunately, the hip implant devices carried serious risks. The company pulled the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implant devices off of the market in 2012.
The metal-on-metal parts used by Stryker to build the device had a high tendency to fail and corrode. The devices poisoned the blood streams of patients when the metal parts seeped into their blood.
In November, Stryker reached a settlement with thousands of injured patients. Experts estimate that the company will ultimately be responsible for more than a $1 billion in liability. This is only a rough estimate and the final cost may be well over a $1 billion dollars once all of the claims are settled.
Legally, the company is required to provide all potential patients with information about their claims after a medical device recall, but there are many individuals who are not aware that their implants have been recalled or that they are entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit.
The recall notices have been distributed, but there are thousands of patients who do not know that their hip implant devices can cause serious injuries and even death.
The medical device lawyers at Peterson & Associates, P.C. are working with injured patients to determine who may have a claim.
