Excelsior Springs, MO (August 13, 2021) – Clay County police say that several injuries were reported after a car accident occurred in the Excelsior Springs area on Thursday afternoon, August 12.
Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol reported that three children, ages two, three, and seven, were seriously injured when a driver, identified as 38-year-old David W. Busick, lost control of his SUV on wet roads.
Busick was reportedly driving northbound on Interstate 35 around 4:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car and traveled off the left side of the road. He then hit a vehicle that was stopped in the median from a previous crash.
One child, a seven-year-old male, was taken to Children’s Mercy via ambulance with serious injuries. The other two children were transported to Liberty Hospital with minor injuries. It’s unclear if they were in the stopped vehicle or were traveling in Busick’s car. Police also didn’t say if Busick suffered injuries in the crash.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details have not been provided.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Collisions in Clay County
Approximately 40% of all collision-related injuries and fatalities are caused by accidents involving more than one vehicle. Establishing fault in these kinds of crashes can be a very tricky process because there is typically more than one contributing factor that led to the accident.
Without the aid of the resources that a seasoned personal injury attorney has at their disposal, determining the exact cause of the collision will be a long uphill battle.
When victims receive injuries in auto accidents brought on by another person’s disregard for the laws of the road, Missouri permits them to file a claim of personal injury against the liable motorist for financial reimbursement. Victims should seek the guidance of an accident attorney in Missouri who has decades of practice in how to handle personal injury laws.
It is important to remember that, no matter how well-intentioned they may seem, insurance adjusters work for insurance companies. Their job is to protect the company’s bottom line. In order to achieve this, adjusters will often work to get you to say that the crash was partially or wholly your fault. They may also try to get you to say that your crash-related injuries aren’t really that serious, or that collision itself wasn’t really that severe.
Anytime you speak with an insurance adjuster, it is imperative that you do not make any admission of fault, or give them a statement regarding the accident. The smartest thing you can do before talking to an adjuster about your car accident is to have a reputable personal injury attorney with you.
