Garden City, MO (August 4, 2021) – A total of five people lost their lives on Monday, August 2, after a tractor-trailer struck another car head-on in Garden City.
The fatal accident occurred on MO-7 at around noon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Local sources revealed that the semi-truck traveled down an embankment into northbound traffic, crashing head-on with a Nissan SUV. The trucker and two passengers in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries. A 29-year-old passenger of the SUV was hospitalized and later pronounced dead the following today on Tuesday, August 3. The trucker was later identified as 59-year-old Everett Ashley, of Lowry City.
The occupants of the Nissan were later identified as 61-year-old Stephen Bennett of Junction City, Jean M. Pariseau, 71, of Herington, Gerald Dittman, 68, of Hope, and Dakota Engel, 29, of Junction City.
An ongoing investigation is underway.
