Independence, MO (August 27, 2021) – One person was killed on Friday, August 27th when an SUV crossed the centerline on US-24 in Independence. It then collided with two other vehicles. Multiple injuries were also reported.
The crash took place at about 11:30 p.m. near Forest Avenue.
According to sources, a white Ford Explorer was heading westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered over the centerline and hit a maroon Subaru head-on. The Explorer continued going westbound in the eastbound lanes. It then struck a Chrysler minivan before overturning.
The driver of the Explorer died at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released, pending family notification.
A passenger in the SUV was transported to a hospital in serious condition.
The driver and two passengers in the Subaru all sustained non-critical injuries.
The driver of the minivan was also hospitalized for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation early Saturday morning.
