Douglas, MO (December 17, 2021) – A motor vehicle accident reported in Jackson County just outside of Douglas ended in injuries. At around 4:50 p.m., on December 16, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Interstate 470.

Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show that a 2012 Toyota Camry was traveling on the eastbound side of Interstate 470 when the driver began to slow the vehicle. For unknown reasons, the Toyota was rear-ended by a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer.

A passenger in the Toyota, 33-year-old Melisa Santiego, sustained injuries in the accident. She was transported to Lee’s Summit Medical Center for care.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with Melisa Santiego at this time. We hope for her full recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

According to reports provided by the Missouri State Department of Public Safety, more than 55,000 people are injured in auto accidents throughout our state each year. Although many accidents resolve with only minor injuries, thousands of people are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries that require emergency and ongoing care.

Not being able to work while being overwhelmed with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills not only impacts victims but their families as well. It does not seem right that victims who are injured in accidents as a result of the actions of others are forced to spend substantial amounts of money on treatment.

When victims are injured in accidents, those harmed are able to pursue legal actions to obtain compensation to cover the financial burdens they face moving forward. Working with a knowledgeable and aggressive car accident attorney in the Douglas area after your accident can greatly improve your chances of recovering.
