Springfield, MO (December 7, 2021) – Several people were hospitalized with injuries following a motor vehicle accident just west of Springfield on Sunday evening, December 5. At around 5:42 p.m., authorities were called to the site of an auto accident on Interstate 44.

Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show that a tractor-trailer, a 2020 Peterbilt tractor, and a third Peterbilt tractor collided on the eastbound side of Interstate 44 near mile marker 60.2. The impact of the crash caused the 2020 Peterbilt to catch on fire.

The drivers of all three trucks were injured. 31-year-old Ravinder Singh was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for the treatment of moderate injuries. Ambulances transported 36-year-old Jason Pontius and 59-year-old Robert Forehand to Mercy Hospital in Aurora for treatment.

At this time, MSHP is investigating the crash.

Our thoughts are with Ravinder Singh, Jason Pontius, and Robert Forehand at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Reports provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that the state of Missouri ranks 19th out of all 50 states for the likelihood of people being involved in fatal collisions. Between 2012 and 2014, more than 2,300 people lost their lives in accidents throughout the state. More than 55,000 more are left with life-altering injuries that require extensive medical treatment.

In many cases, victims are harmed in crashes due to the negligence of others. Some of the most common factors contributing to auto accidents in our state include:

  • Speeding
  • Driving while impaired
  • Driving while distracted
  • Failing to yield the right of way to others

People involved in collisions are often forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars on medical treatment and vehicle repairs while going without wages from work. Even though many injured victims have to take some time off work to recover from their injuries, numerous victims are left permanently disabled and unable to return to work after. When victims are injured in accidents as a result of other drivers, it is important that they seek the legal guidance of a Springfield car accident attorney as soon as possible.
