St. Louis, MO (February 01, 2021) – Four victims sustained injuries when an ambulance transporting a patient was hit by a driver going the wrong way on Sunday, January 31st on Interstate 64.
The accident took place at about 4:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in the area of Kingshighway Boulevard.
Officials stated that a St. Louis medic unit was carrying a patient when the operator noticed a car heading straight for them. The operator attempted to circumvent the oncoming vehicle but, in spite of best efforts, was struck.
The wrong-way driver sustained critical injuries and was transported via a different ambulance to a local hospital. Two of the paramedics were transported to the hospital via a third ambulance with injuries classified as non-life-threatening.
The initial patient was also taken to the hospital by a fourth medic unit. Their current condition is unknown.
The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed off for about an hour while the scene was cleared.
This accident is under investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
