Crawford Co, MO (July 24, 2021) – Three people were killed during a four-vehicle collision on the afternoon of Thursday, July 22nd on Interstate 44 at milepost 214.

An investigation showed that 69-year-old Allan R. Bates, a resident of Lake Worth, FL., was driving a 2019 Ford F-650 UHAUL westbound on the interstate at about 4:50 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a 2015 Honda Odyessy driven by 45-year-old Mark A. Polsak, a resident of High Ridge.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Ford F-650 then crossed over the median and collided head-on with a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 23-year-old Frank L. Handley, a resident of Janesville, WI.

The force of the impact then caused the Chevrolet to strike a 2015 Ford Transit van that was driven by 47-year-old Michael W. Semmens Sr., a resident of Genoa, IL.

Handley and his two passengers, 22-year-old Eve A. King, also from Janesville, and 19-year-old Ronald King, a resident of Beloit, WI. were all pronounced dead at the scene at 5:29 p.m. by the Crawford County coroner.

Semmens sustained non-critical injuries and was transported by North Crawford County Ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

This accident is under investigation by troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. It is unknown at the time if any charges will be filed.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims, Mr. Frank L. Handley, Ms. Eve A. King, and Mr. Ronald King, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
