Jackson Co, MO (July 18, 2021) – Further details have been released following a three-car crash that occurred on Interstate 70 on Saturday, July 17, in Jackson County.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office say that five Lexington residents were injured in the crash. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, 27-year-old Laura L. Hoyt was driving a Chrysler Pacifica on I-70, about 70 feet before mile marker 25.2, at 4:40 p.m. Shortly thereafter, she swerved to avoid debris in the road and spun out of control, causing her to run into a guardrail.
Her vehicle was then struck by a Toyota Tundra driven by 39-year-old Jonathan D. Bennett. After the initial collision, Bennett’s Toyota Tundra was struck by a Jeep Wrangler driven by 25-year-old Briana M. Lowe. Hoyt’s four juvenile passengers, aged 3 to 7, suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment. Hoyt was moderately injured and was transported to Centerpoint by Central Jackson County EMS.
It’s unclear if Ms. Lowe or Mr. Bennett sustained injuries in the collision, though the investigation is still ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
