St. Joseph, MO (July 15, 2021) – Two drivers sustained injuries during a two-vehicle accident on US-59 on the afternoon of Thursday, July 15th in Buchanan County.
A report issued by the Highway Patrol shows that the collision took place at about 12:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of US-59, two miles south of St. Joseph.
The accident occurred when a 2019 International tractor-trailer and a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer were both traveling northbound along US-59. The International pulled onto the shoulder in order to make a wide lefthand turn and the Peterbilt attempted to pass, causing the International to turn into it.
The force of the impact pushed the Peterbilt off the paved portion of the highway where it struck an embankment before coming to a complete stop. The Peterbilt came to rest in the oncoming lanes of traffic.
Both vehicles were insured and both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
The International tractor-trailer endured extensive damage and the Peterbilt was totaled. Both trucks had to be towed away from the scene.
The driver of the International, a 59-year-old male from Dekalb, was transported by Buchanan County Emergency Medical Services to Mosaic St. Joseph for medical treatment of non-critical injuries.
The driver of the Peterbilt, a 52-year-old male from Seneca, Kansas, was transported in non-critical condition to a local area hospital.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

After being involved in an accident involving a tractor-trailer, the majority of victims face a long road to recovery. This can include rigorous physical rehabilitation and continuing medical treatments. This means that their medical bills will steadily increase as well as their associated damages such as missed wages due to not being able to return to work.
Regrettably, a lot of victims in this situation panic and quickly agree to the very first settlement offer the insurance company proposes without giving any consideration to the scope of their future medical expenses and without even being aware of the full extent of their injuries. This leaves them to pay for everything else out of pocket.
