Rogersville, MO (May 07, 2021) – Troopers from the Missouri Highway Patrol were called to the scene of a fatal crash involving a Fed Ex truck on Friday, May 7th just outside of Rogersville.
The victim, who has since been identified as 21-year-old Mercedes Valeika, and a student-teacher in the Logan-Rogersville School District, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. on State Highway 125 between Rogersville and Strafford when the driver of a northbound vehicle attempted to pass a Fed Ex truck on a double-yellow line. Valeika, who was traveling southbound, swerved to avoid the oncoming wrong-way vehicle and struck the delivery truck instead.
Police said that the first driver did not stop for the crash.
The driver of the Fed Ex truck was unharmed during the incident.
