Johnson Co, MO (September 16, 2021) – On Wednesday, September 15th, a collision between two vehicles caused injuries to both drivers, one seriously, in Centerview Township.

Reports show that the accident took place at about 6:50 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of US-50 at the intersection of NW 361st Road when a 2012 Honda attempting to turn was struck from behind by a 2015 Mazda attempting to overtake it. Both vehicles skidded off opposite sides of the roadway before coming to uncontrolled stops.

The driver of the Honda, a 63-year-old female from Warrensburg, was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City in serious condition.

The driver of the Mazda, a 34-year-old male from Holden, sustained minor injuries during the impact. He was taken to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in Johnson County

The customary rule regarding rear-end accidents in Missouri is that the striking driver will be held responsible for the accident. When filing a claim, the plaintiff is able to put into effect the state’s rear-end collision doctrine.

As outlined in the doctrine, the claimant will be required to prove three elements. First, that they were lawfully on the road. This means they had a valid driver’s license and registered vehicle. Secondly, they were hit from behind by the offender’s car, and third, that they were not negligent.

These components are usually simple to prove and, once this is accomplished, the burden of proof of non-negligence is now on the offending driver.
