Noesho, MO (February 8, 2022) – Two people were left injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Newton County on Monday morning, February 7. At around 7:50 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to a crash site on Gateway Drive.
Reports from MSHP Sgt C.S. Mason show that a collision between a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2007 Saturn Ion occurred on Gateway Drive just three miles north of Neosho.
The incident left both vehicles totaled, requiring them to be towed from the scene. MSHP and firefighters remained on-site for an extended period as they worked to clear the roadway.
A 22-year-old man inside the Chevrolet, Zackary Whittlesey of Granby, Missouri, and 36-year-old Christina Stotts of Joplin, Missouri, were both transported to Freeman West by EMS for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Christina Stotts and Zackary Whittlesey at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Every day, motor vehicle accidents impact the lives of innocent people across our state. In countless instances, victims require emergency medical attention due to their injuries. Although most motorists are careful and are considerate of other motorists sharing the road, we see many accidents take place due to driver error. In fact, over 80% of collisions involve some form of negligence.
In Missouri, some of the leading causes of crashes include:
- Drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Drivers who are speeding
- Drivers who fail to yield the right of way
- Drivers who are distracted by phones and other objects
These and other acts of negligence often lead to life-altering crashes that force victims out of work for several weeks. When people suffer spinal cord injuries, broken bones, and even traumatic brain injuries, they often require long-term care as well. In some instances, victims may have legal options available to help them move forward.
