Mount Vernon, MO (January 8, 2022) – At around 9:10 p.m., on January 5, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Interstate 44.
Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show that a rear-end collision between a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia occurred on the westbound side of Interstate 44. The impact of the crash caused the passenger of the Nissan to be ejected from the vehicle.
The passenger, 25-year-old Luis Javianne Pacheco Lopez, suffered fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, 27-year-old Marvin David Hernandez Soto, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for care.
At this time, investigations surrounding the accident are underway.
