Saint Joseph, MO (January 12, 2022) – Two people were left with injuries following a motor vehicle accident in Buchanan County on Tuesday morning, January 11. At around 7:15 a.m., authorities were requested on-site at a crash on Interstate 29.
Reports from authorities show that a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT was entering Interstate 29 from US Highway 36 eastbound. As the 2013 Peterbilt 386 and 2012 Chevrolet Equinox were traveling north on Interstate 29, the driver of Chevrolet attempted to overtake the Peterbilt by entering the passing lanes. The driver of the Lincoln then lost control of their vehicle. As the driver of the Peterbilt attempted to avoid the collision, it began to skid, resulting in it striking the driver’s bedside of the Lincoln. The impact of the crash then caused the Lincoln to rotate and crash into the Chevrolet.
Two people involved in the crash were injured. Both 26-year-old Zachariah Smith and 20-year-old Gabriela Mauricio were transported to Mosaic Life Care for the treatment of injuries.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Zachariah Smith and Gabriela Mauricio at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
