Mendon, MO (June 30, 2022) – Authorities in Scott County responded to the scene of a major Amtrak train crash that took place just 100 miles outside of Kansas City.

Reports provided by authorities show that at around 1:42 p.m., on June 27, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a crash that involved an Amtrak train traveling from the Los Angeles area to Chicago, Illinois.

For unknown reasons, the train collided with a dump truck at an unguarded crossing area. The impact of the crash caused the train to derail.

More than 150 people suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Four victims have lost their lives as a result of their injuries.

The victims have since been identified as Rochelle Cook, 58, and Kim Holsapple, 56 — both of DeSoto, Kansas, Binh Pham, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Billy Barton II, 54, of Brookfield, Missouri.
