Rolla, MO (May 28, 2022) – A motor vehicle accident reported in Phelps County sent two people to area hospitals with injuries. Just after 10:15 p.m., on May 27, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of an auto accident on 18th Street.
Reports provided by authorities show that a 2004 Saturn L300 was traveling on old St. James Road. As the vehicle passed through the intersection of 18th Street, it collided with a 2012 Mazda 5. The impact of the crash caused the Saturn to strike concrete and cross over the roadway before striking a utility pole in the fire hydrant. The driver of the vehicle was ejected.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage as a result of the accident and were towed from the scene.
Two people in the accident were injured. EMS transported 35-year-old Holly Smith to Phelps Health Hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. A second victim, 42-year-old Michael Hook, was transported to the same hospital for care.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Holly Smith and Michael Hook at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
