Smithville, MO (May 20, 2022) – One man suffered significant injuries in a motor vehicle accident in Clay County on Tuesday evening that ultimately claimed his life. At around 5:28 p.m., on May 17, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of an auto accident on US Highway 169.
Reports from authorities show that a 2013 Honda motorcycle collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier on the northbound side of the highway just north of DD Highway. The impact of the crash caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his vehicle. He was then struck by a 2007 Toyota Tacoma and a 2016 Ford Explorer.
The motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Samuel Reffett, was a rush to North Kansas City Hospital for emergency medical care. Authorities confirm that he passed away after arriving.
At this time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
