Springfield, MO (May 11, 2022) – A two-vehicle accident that occurred in Greene County on Saturday evening sent one man from the Joplin area to a local hospital with serious injuries. Just after 11 p.m., on May 7, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of a crash on Kearney Street.
Reports from MSHP MSGT SR Monk show that a 54-year-old male pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk near a parking lot located on Kearney Street. For unknown reasons, a 2011 GMC Yukon when off the roadway and struck the pedestrian before crashing into a 2004 Toyota Highlander.
The pedestrian, identified as Danny Muncy, sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident. He was rushed to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for emergency medical treatment.
At this time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Our thoughts are with Danny Muncy at this time. We hope for his full recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Motor vehicle accidents in the state of Missouri take place for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common causes of crashes that we see in our state include:
Impairment: thousands of people are harmed in auto accidents due to drivers who enter the roadway while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When drivers are impaired, they can make it incredibly challenging for them to maintain control over their vehicles. As a result, we see many people harmed by impaired drivers each year.
Distractions: taking your attention off the road for any reason can have severe consequences. Even a moment of distraction can have life-changing impacts on other people sharing the road. Unfortunately, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people using their cell phones while driving their vehicles. Some other distractions include eating, talking to passengers, and reaching for objects in the backseat of your vehicle.
Reckless: reckless driving actions are completely preventable. However, we continue to see thousands of people injured every year due to these actions. When people speed, run red lights, fail to yield to others and engage in other reckless actions, they are likely to strike other vehicles passing by.
Unfortunately, more than 65,000 people in our state are injured every year due to auto accidents. More than 85% of these crashes are a result of these and other acts of negligence. When people are injured in auto accidents, it is crucial that they reach out to a skilled and knowledgeable legal team as soon as possible.
