Truck Accidents in Missouri
In 2021, commercial motor vehicle accidents had a fatality rate of 1.28 deaths per 100,000 people in the state of Missouri. Unfortunately, the number of people injured as a result of truck accidents in our state continues to increase year after year. Commercial vehicle accidents often result in more severe injuries for those involved. This is due to the size and weight of these massive vehicles, especially when compared to other vehicles sharing the road.
If you have been hurt as a result of a truck accident, you may be able to file a legal claim to recover financial compensation to help offset some of your medical costs and other damages you face. When it comes to pursuing legal action, there are various parties who you can hold us accountable for any resulting injuries and damages.
The truck driver is usually the first party that is considered when liability is being determined. This is because the driver is the one who is operating the vehicle and therefore has the most control over it. Trucking companies are also commonly held liable for accidents because they are responsible for hiring and training drivers. If they engaged in negligent hiring practices, they can assume liability for any injuries or death that result from crashes caused by their drivers.
Cargo companies can be held liable if their cargo was not properly secured and caused an accident. Maintenance companies can be held liable if they did not properly maintain the truck and it caused an accident.
In some cases, the truck owner can also be held liable for an accident. This is usually only the case if the owner was aware of a mechanical issue with the truck and did not have it fixed before allowing it to be driven.
