Hopkins, MO – Marcus Nelson Fatally Injured in Truck Crash on MO-148

Hopkins, MO (November 23, 2022) – A traffic accident took place in Nodaway County that claimed the life of 75-year-old Marcus Nelson of Hopkins, Missouri. On November 22, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified that a crash had taken place on Missouri State Route 148.

According to authorities, a 2005 Peterbilt, a 2011 Jeep latitude, and a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta were all traveling north on Missouri State Route 148 at around 3 p.m. As the Jeep and the Volkswagen began to slow down for our farm implements, the Jeep was struck in the rear by the Peterbilt. The impact of the crash caused the Jeep to move forward and strike the Volkswagen. The Jeep went off the roadway and came to rest on its wheels in a garden nearby. The Jeep was totaled in the crash.

Two people in the vehicle suffered severe injuries. Authorities transported 75-year-old Marcus Nelson and 67-year-old Glenda Wyer Nelson to Mosaic Maryville hospital, where they underwent emergency care. Marcus Nelson was pronounced deceased after arriving.

The crash remains under investigation.
