Jefferson, MO (November 30, 2022) – Authorities in Jefferson County were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident that took place on Tuesday evening that sent a 56-year-old woman from Arnold, Missouri, to a local hospital with injuries. On November 29, the Missouri State Highway Patrol received a request to respond to the scene of a crash on Vogel Road.
Preliminary investigations performed by MSHP indicate that just after 6:10 p.m., a 2017 Mazda CX five was stopped in the left turn lane from West on Vogel Road heading to the southbound side of Miller Road. For reasons unknown, the driver of a 2007 Saturn Ion failed to keep a proper lookout and the front of their vehicle struck the rear of the Mazda.
The driver of the Mazda, 56-year-old Karen Wilson, suffered injuries in the crash. She was transported to Mercy Hospital South by Rock Township ambulance district, where she underwent treatment and evaluation.
Crash investigations are currently underway.
We hope Karen Wilson recovers quickly following this crash.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Every day, we see life-changing car crashes take place in the state of Missouri. There are many types of actions that take place day after day in our state. We see many people suffer severe injuries as a result of these collisions. Unfortunately, many of them are preventable. One of the most common types of accidents that impact the lives of Missourians is rear-end collisions. These accidents can take place for a variety of reasons. However, many of them involved negligence. Leading causes of rear-end crashes include:
- Driver Inattention or Distraction: The leading cause of rear-end collisions is driver inattention or distraction. When a driver takes their eyes off the road, even for a split second, they can miss critical information that could prevent a collision. For example, if a car ahead of them suddenly stops, they may not have time to react and avoid a crash.
- Following Too Closely: Tailgating, or driving too close to the car in front of you, reduces your reaction time if that car has to brake suddenly. It also increases the severity of the impact if you do collide with the other vehicle.
- Speeding: When drivers are going too fast, they may not be able to stop in time if the car ahead of them brakes suddenly. Speeding also increases the severity of an impact if there is a collision.
