Car Accidents in Missouri
Crashes are a main cause of injuries and death in the state of Missouri. Each year, tens of thousands of people are hospitalized for significant injuries as a result of vehicle collisions in our state. Regrettably, on many occasions, victims suffered debilitating injuries in crashes as a result of drivers who cross over the centerline. Although there are several things that can cause a driver to cross over the centerline of the roadway and strike another vehicle, there are three main factors that continue to lead to these accidents taking place. These include:
- Distracted driving: Distractions behind the wheel can come in many forms, from cell phones and passengers to simply rubbernecking at an accident scene. But no matter the source, distracted driving is a serious danger on the road. Drivers who are distracted may drift over the centerline and strike other vehicles nearby.
- Impairment: Impairment is another leading cause of centerline crossings and head-on collisions. Drugs, including prescription, over-the-counter, and illegal, can all adversely affect drivers. So can alcohol. In fact, drunk driving is one of the most commonly cited causes of this type of crash.
- Drowsy driving: Drivers who are tired may have trouble keeping their eyes open and their focus on the road ahead. They may even fall asleep at the wheel.
