When it comes to accidents caused by distracted drivers, pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to being hit. Their lack of protection also leaves them more vulnerable to suffering severe and fatal injuries.
Driver impairment is another leading cause of fatal pedestrian accidents. Alcohol is a factor in about one-third of all pedestrian fatalities. But drugs – both legal and illegal – can also impair drivers and lead to deadly accidents.
