While any car accident has the potential to cause serious injuries, some types of crashes are more likely to result in catastrophic injuries than others. Head-on collisions, for example, often result in traumatic brain injuries or spinal cord damage, while rear-end collisions can cause whiplash and other neck and back injuries.

Some of the most common injuries suffered in car accidents include:

  • Loss of limbs: In a serious car accident, it is not uncommon for victims to lose limbs. There are many cases where people suffer from spleen ruptures, lung punctures, and even internal bleeding, which can be life-threatening if emergency medical attention is not rendered to the victim.
