At around 6 p.m., a 2001 international truck tractor-trailer collided with a black two-wheel bicycle on Route JJ just two miles west of Hopkins, Missouri. The bicyclist and the bike both came to rest in the ditch on the northbound side of the road.
The bicyclist, 59-year-old Steven Mozier or Maitland, Missouri, suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was transported by Nodaway County EMS to Mosaic Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash at this time.
Our thoughts are with Stephen Mozier as we hope for his full recovery.
Bicycle Accidents in Missouri
Vehicle accidents occur every single day in Missouri that result in painful injuries for those involved. Unfortunately, victims often face towering financial burdens, which just make the recovery process even more difficult. When injured parties are involved in accidents caused by negligent motorists, they may be able to file a personal injury case. These legal claims allow them to recover financial compensation for their damages.
In Missouri, there are three main types of recoverable damages: economic, non-economic, and punitive.
Economic damages are generally financial losses that you have suffered as a result of the collision. This includes things like hospital bills, lost wages, and damage to your vehicle. Non-economic damages are those that do not have a dollar value assigned to them. They can include things like emotional distress, pain and suffering, and loss of quality of life. Punitive damages are awarded in cases where the defendant’s actions were grossly negligent. These damages are designed to punish them and prevent others from similar behavior.
