New Madrid, MO – Charles Nelson Injured in Truck Crash on I-55 near MM 44.2

New Madrid, MO (October 26, 2022) – A traffic collision took place in New Madrid County that left one man significantly injured. At around 6:50 p.m., October 24, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified that a collision occurred on Interstate 55.

According to reports, a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer and a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta collided on the southbound side of Interstate 55 near mile marker 44.2. Both vehicles were severely damaged in the accident and had to be towed away from the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 81-year-old Charles Nelson of Harrisburg, Illinois, suffered moderate injuries in the crash. Nelson was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he underwent emergency medical treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash.
