There are many different factors that can explain why Missouri’s car accident rates have increased over the past few years. The primary reason, according to studies, is the growing number of distracted drivers, specifically the number of people who use their cellphones while they are behind the wheel. In spite of a reduction in the number of younger drivers who text and make calls while they are driving, about 6% in 2014 and 5% in 2015, approximately 14% of all car accidents in the state of Missouri are caused by distracted driving stemming from a driver’s cellphone use.
