Kansas City, MO - Motorcyclist Injured After Flood Barricades Removed From Elmwood Ave
Kansas City, MO (August 12, 2021) - A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries when he rode into a flooded Kansas City street Thursday night after someone had removed barricades blocking off the roadway.
The crash took place on Thursday, August 12th at about 9:00 p.m. in the area of Elmwood Avenue and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. A 75-year-old man from Kansas City was badly injured and transported by ambulance to a local medical facility for treatment.
An investigation showed that the motorcycle rider was traveling westbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he suddenly found himself facing high water at a bend in the road and was ejected from his bike when it overturned.
Roughly eight inches of water covered the roadway at the time of the accident. Large wooden flood barricades had been placed across the roadway at Elmwood Avenue due to the extremely high water but they had since been removed by someone unauthorized to do so.
The barricades were replaced after police conducted their investigation and the roadway had been cleared.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Determining liability for a vehicle accident caused by unsafe conditions on local or state roadways varies. Some commonly at-fault parties include:
In the event that an inadequately maintained vehicle or improperly secured object, such as a mattress, ladder, furniture, or other construction-related or household item caused your accident, the driver of that vehicle could be held liable.
Truck owners, truck operators, or other people working in the trucking industry could be held accountable for improperly fastened cargo, overloaded trailers, poorly secured trailers, and tire blow-outs.
If carelessly maintained roads, like one with a missing or damaged guardrail or a big pothole that has gone unrepaired caused your accident, a government entity might be to blame.
