Kansas City, MO - Two Officers Injured by Impaired Driver at Flora Ave and E. 44th St
Kansas City, MO (May 18, 2021) - Two police officers from Kansas City were injured and hospitalized when an impaired driver attempted to evade arrest on Saturday, May 15th.
The accident took place at about 5:00 p.m. in the area of East 44th Street and Flora Avenue when officers attempted to arrest the driver of a Cadillac CT5 who refused to get out of his car.
The two officers were trying to get the man out of the Cadillac when he began driving, dragging both officers along with the vehicle. The car then sideswiped a parked Nissan Sentra and then crashed into a Ford Escape.
One officer sustained non-critical injuries when he was tossed to the ground moments before the Cadillac struck the Nissan. The second officer was clinging to the passenger side of the Cadillac when it collided with the Ford. His injuries are also believed to be non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Cadillac received minor injuries during the impact.
The driver of the Ford Escape fled the scene. Investigators were able to determine that the vehicle had been reported stolen not long before the accident occurred.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
